Got Ya In My Web

Supplies needed:

PSP (I used PSP X)
Animation Shop
DSB Flux
Alien Skin Xenofex 2
Tube or image. I used Martin Abel art which can be found here
You must purchase a license to use his work.
Web tube and Web brush- Here

Open a new canvas 504x431 and flood fill with black.

Selections/select all, selections/modify/contract by 2. Flood fill with white.

Do not de-select. Selections/modify/contract by 1. Flood fill with black. Selections/none.

Open up the web tube and paste as a new layer and place it over to the left so the top, bottom and left hand edge touch the border slightly. Name this layer web.

Open up your artist tube or whatever tube you are going to use and paste that as a new layer. Resize and place a little more to the right. I resized my tube at 90 percent bicubic once. Name this layer tube.

Take the magic wand with settings at tolerance 0 and feather 0, anit-alias NOT checked. In the layer palette make sure the rectangle layer is highlighted. Click the wand inside the black rectangle. You should get marching ants around JUST the inside rectangle, not the frame part.

Selections/invert. In the layer palette, highlight the tube layer and click delete once. You can also do this for the web layer also, in case it’s overlapping too much onto your frame. Selections/select none.

On the tube layer, add a drop shadow of 5, 5, 50, 20 and white for the color.

Duplicate the web layer twice for a total of 3 layers.

X out the two bottom web layers and make sure the top web layer is highlighted in the layer palette.

Effects/plugins/xenofex 2/constellation with these settings:

X out this top layer and un-X the second layer. Xenofex/constellation again but this time just hit the random seed button once.

X out the second layer and un-X the third layer and repeat the above step.

Select your selection freehand tool (lasso) with mode set to “add”. Make sure the tube layer is highlighted and select the web coming from her hands. It doesn’t have to be perfect but try not to select her hand or other parts of the tube if possible.

Duplicate the tube layer two times for a total of three layers.

Repeat the same steps you did for the constellation on the web for the web on her hands.

Select your font that you would like to use for your name. Foreground to black and background to a color from the tube or I used #cb0218 and the stroke to 2 or 3 depending on the size of your name. Change the direction of the text to “vertical and right”.

DO NOT convert to raster layer yet.

Widen the text a bit if you want and if the letters are too far apart then change the kerning to a minus number by clicking on the down arrow till you get them where you want them. You will have to click on the plus sign and then double click on the text layer. It will bring up the text box again. Now you can change the kerning. You will see it move closer together.

Hit duplicate once. Click on the second one. It will say something like Copy of Vector 1.

Double click the text, which will be your name. When the box comes up change the foreground to white and the background to null. Change the stroke to about 6 or so. Depending on the size of your text you can play with this setting. You will see the stroke change on the canvas.

Selections/select none. Convert both layers to raster layers.

Take the magic wand tool with the same settings as before and click inside each of the red parts of the text. Find your web brush and make sure the foreground color is set to black. Add a new raster layer. Stamp the brush on the letters to add some design. Selections/select none.

Add any copyright info or license numbers now.

ANIMATING Now in your layer palette make sure the “copy 2 of tube” layer is NOT checked but the other two “tube” layers ARE X’d out. Do the same for the “web” layer. Now edit/copy merged and go to animation shop and paste as a new animation.

Go back to PSP and X out those top layers and un-X the second layers and do the same thing. Edit/copy merged and go to animation shop and click on the first frame, right click paste after current frame. Repeat for the third layer.

Save as a GIF file and you’re done !!
